Ukraine increases agricultural exports by 31% in five months of 2017 – Agriculture ministry

Exports of Ukrainian agrarian products in January-May 2017 amounted to $7.513 billion and increased by almost 31% compared to the same period in 2016.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the key export commodity groups are grains with a 38.1% share of total agricultural exports, sunflower oil with 27.4%, oilseeds with 8.6%.

"The increase in agricultural exports by $1.795 billion is an excellent result of work of our exporters... This is a significant impetus for further work in the direction of diversifying national exports, increasing the share of processed products in the structure of agricultural trade," Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food for European Integration Olha Trofimtseva said.

According to her, Asia (41.1%), the European Union (30%) and Africa (19.3%) remain the key partners in the regional structure of Ukrainian exports.

The top five major importers of Ukrainian agrarian products in the five months of this year were India with $919.9 million, Egypt with $825.9 million, Spain with $459.6 million, the Netherlands with $441.3 million, and Turkey with $426.1 million.

The top ten leading products were sunflower oil, corn, soybeans, sugar, meat and poultry offal, barley, soybean oil, chocolate, honey, and beans.
