Govt approves introduction of blockchain technology in land cadastre, e-land auctions

The blockchain technology will be introduced in the State Land Cadastre.

"In today's resolution, we have written two things: the transfer of the State Land Cadastre to blockchain technology. It is the most advanced technology in the world to protect information. The second point is the transfer of all of the auctions conducted for leasing state land to the electronic format. This is a pilot project that we will launch this October," First Deputy Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Maksym Martyniuk said at a government meeting on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said that the government has introduced a commitment to hold land auctions for state-owned land.

"Since the adoption of our decision in Ukraine, it is possible to hold only land auctions. So there is no other way. I would ask you to sign a letter from the Prime Minister to all the supervision agecnies, regional administrations, district administrations, so that everyone can be clearly notified that the failure to comply with this resolution entails criminal punishment. Any land that is provided must be provided at auctions, "the prime minister said.

As reported, referring to a memorandum of cooperation signed by Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program, the Ukrainian government initially sought adoption of a bill on farmland turnover by late December 2016. Instead, Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada extended the moratorium on the sale of farmland imposed in 2002 until 2018.
