Ukrzaliznytsia loses almost 30,000 cargo, 1,500 passenger railroad cars in Donbas

Ukrzaliznytsia has lost 226 diesel locomotives and 68 electric locomotives on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions uncontrolled by Kyiv.

Forty-nine diesel sections, 94 electric sections, 29,375 cargo railroad cars and 520 passenger railroad cars were also left on the uncontrolled territories, the information policy and public relations department of Ukrzaliznytsia told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to earlier reports, the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on March 15, 2017 made a decision on temporary full halt of cargo transportation to and from the uncontrolled territories in Donbas. The decision does not apply to humanitarian cargos and the crossing of the division line by people.

Previously, on February 10, 2017, veterans of the special operation and parliamentarians blocked the Fenolna-Kryvy Torets section, and the Kurdiumivka-Bakhmut section had been blocked on February 2. The first section to be blocked was the Shypilove-Svitlanove section, which was blocked on January 25, 2017.

According to the information provided by the regional branch of the Donetsk Railways, the losses of the carrier associated with the temporary railway blockade were some UAH 164 million as of March 13.
