NSDC recommends NBU to develop mechanism to block payment systems of aggressor country

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) has recommended that the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) jointly with the SBU in a month develop a mechanism for legal blocking the functioning of electronic payment systems of aggressor country subjects.

The recommendation is contained in the NSDC decree on the threats to the cyber security of the state and urgent measures to neutralize them dated December 29, 2016, the text of which has been posted on the president's website.

In addition, the NBU is recommended with the assistance of the Security Service, the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection, the National Police in three months to prepare suggestions on improvements to meet current cyber threats to the requirements for protection of information in information and telecommunication systems of banks and other financial institutions, e-banking service systems.

As reported, Petro Poroshenko at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council on December 29, 2016 said that about 6,500 planned cyber attacks were detected in the past two months in the facilities of five agencies and 31 public information resources, the investigation into a number of incidents showed the involvement of Russian special services.
