The German manufacturer of equipment for spent nuclear fuel storage facility 2 located on the site of Chornobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) has finished its tests, according to a posting on the website of the State Agency for Managing Exclusion Zone.

"The equipment will be sent from Germany where it was made to Ukraine and shipped to Chornobyl NPP… By the end of March 2017 we are to finish not only construction and assembly tests, but comprehensive tests of separate systems. This is required for starting comprehensive cold tests of the entire spent nuclear fuel facility 2 in April," the agency said.

As reported, the facility is able to store over 20,000 fuel assemblies unloaded from Chornobyl NPP. The assemblies can be stored for 100 years.
