Ukraine's Antimonopoly Committee wins ruling to enforce UAH 172 mln fine against Russia's Gazprom

Kyiv business court has ruled in favor of a lawsuit filed by Ukraine's Antimonopoly Committee seeking enforcement of a fine against Gazprom totaling UAH 172 billion (about $6.64 billion at the current exchange rate), an Interfax correspondent reported from the court.

The ruling was made at a closed court hearing in Kyiv on Monday.

"The court upheld our demands in full," an Antimonopoly Committee representative said after the hearing.

The fine itself represents half the total, while penalties for nonpayment make up the other half.

On September 13, the judicial panel of the Ukrainian Supreme Court's appellate chamber for economic cases rejected Gazprom's appeal against a higher business court ruling upholding lower court decisions ordering Gazprom to pay the fine to the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.
