Head of Ukraine's Accounting Chamber suspected of fraud with apartment

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko has signed a suspicion of the unlawful privatization of an apartment against Head of the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine Roman Mahuta.

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) said on Facebook that the criminal case was opened under Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of office).

Spokesperson for the general prosecutor, Larysa Sarhan, informed about the story with the unlawful privatization of the apartment.

"A member of the Accounting Chamber owning a privatized apartment in Kyiv asked the head of the Accounting Chamber to give her employer-rented housing downtown Kyiv. The bill envisages the provision of housing, but not its privatization," she wrote on Facebook.

It was established that in December 2013 the Accounting Chamber bought apartments, including a two-room apartments worth UAH 1.39 million at 10, Poltavska Street.

Later a member of the Accounting Chamber asked the chamber head to privatize the apartment. The chamber head agreed to do this. The apartment was privatized and then presented to a member of the Accounting Chamber.

Mahuta has been head of the Accounting Chamber since 2012.
