Number of unprofitable banks in Ukraine down to 35 in nine months

The number of unprofitable banks in Ukraine in January-September 2016 decreased to 35 out of 100 operating banks, while in 2015 loss was recorded at 41 banks, in 2014 at 52 banks.

According to the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the overall balanced loss in the banking system of the country in January-September 2016 amounted to UAH 11.919 billion, while the loss of operating banks stood at UAH 11.625 billion, insolvent banks at UAH 293.691 million.

According to the NBU, the loss of banks from foreign banking groups amounted to UAH 10.972 billion, or 94.4% of operating banks' losses, that of banks from the first group was UAH 90.428 million, banks from the second group UAH 680.715 million.

According to the NBU, the biggest loss in January-September 2016 was at VTB Bank (UAH 5.612 billion), Prominvestbank (UAH 4.081 billion), Sberbank (UAH 2.963 billion) and Ukrsotsbank (UAH 2.771 billion).

The largest profit among all the banks was at Raiffeisen Bank Aval (UAH 2.525 billion), Citibank (UAH 1.11 billion), and OTP Bank (UAH 874.190 billion).

The number of operating banks as of October 1, 2016 amounted to 100 financial institutions.
