Nord Stream 2 is Russia's political project – Naftogaz head

Construction of Nord Stream 2 is politically motivated, it is not a commercial project of Russia, Head of Naftogaz Ukrainy Andriy Koblev believes.

"Not only Ukraine, but also Central and Eastern Europe, would feel the negative impact. Russia again uses the divide and rule tactics. First it divides European countries setting different prices of gas, and then it proposes more favorable prices to those who suffered most of all in exchange to political concessions," the press service of BBC reported, referring to the Koblev's interview.

Kobolev said that despite various interests of European countries and activities of the Gazprom's lobby, the Ukrainian company considers Europe as a reliable partner.

He said that Naftogaz is trying to balance its gas portfolio and invites all companies who are ready to sell gas to cooperate and play under its rules.

"Now 14 European companies are selling gas to Naftogaz. The fact that they cooperate with us is evidence that Naftogaz is a reliable partner," he said.

Kobolev also highly estimates Naftogaz's chances to win a case against Gazprom in the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. He said that statistics is in favor of Naftogaz, although risks are large. He said that Gazprom often blackmails its consumers and has a long history of discriminating European companies. However, the Russian company lost almost all cases in court.
