Ukraine's GDP 0.1% up in Q1, 2016

Ukraine's real gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2016 increased by 0.1% compared to the first quarter of 2015, while in the previous year the drop was 17%, the State Statistics Service has said.

According to its data, in relation to the previous quarter Ukraine's GDP in the first quarter of 2016 fell by 0.7%, whereas in the fourth and third quarters of 2015 this figure was positive.

As reported, Ukraine's GDP in the past year declined by 9.9%, although the rate of decline "quarter compared to the same quarter of the previous year" was steadily slowing down: in the first quarter the figure stood at 17%, in the second quarter at 14.7%, in the third quarter at 7.2%, and in the fourth quarter at 1.4%.

The deflator also declined: from 42.8% in the first quarter to 39.6% in the second quarter, 37.9% in the third quarter and 32.7% in the fourth quarter, which brought the figure over the whole year to 38.4%.

In nominal terms, Ukraine's GDP last year grew and amounted to UAH 1.98 trillion, which is 26.3% more than in 2014.
