The Cabinet of Ministers has not extended emergency measures in the energy sector that expired on January 19, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn has said in Kyiv.

"The Cabinet has not extended [the measures]. Today I've made the proposal [to extend the emergency measures]," he said.

According to the minister, the introduction of emergency measures in energy allowed to save 500,000 tonnes of coal by increasing the loading of nuclear power plants.

According to the minister, when emergency measures had expired, state enterprise Energomarket proposed reducing burden on nuclear power plants by 900MW that would increase burden on thermal power plants whose electricity tariff is higher.

Demchyshyn clarified that the tariff of Energoatom is UAH 0.42 per kWh, while the rate of thermal power plants is UAH 1.05/kWh.
