Nine out of 20 largest Ukrainian banks successfully pass stress tests

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has finished stress tests for 20 largest Ukrainian banks and four banks did not require additional capitalization, while five banks have fulfilled the additional capitalization program, the director of the bank oversight department, Kateryna Rozhkova, has said.

"Now active work with six banks is being conducted, and three banks will join it after the approval of their results. Two banks are finishing the agreement of their programs," the press service of the NBU reported, citing Rozhkova, after a meeting of the NBU's top managers with bankers on Wednesday.

Rozhkova said that the additional capitalization programs after stress tests are drawn up for three years.

She said that among tasks of 2016 are stress tests of 40 more banks that will begin in May. Transactions with affiliated person in the whole banking system would be checked.

She said that the NBU expect that in 2017 banks will see operating profits.

One of the key directions of the work will be the introduction of oversight on the consolidated basis, Rozhkova said.
