The Kremlin is concerned by the IMF decision to lift the ban on the provision of loans to countries with overdue sovereign debts in the context of the Ukrainian debt and believes that it creates a dangerous precedent for international practice.

"We are talking about a sovereign debt. […] No doubt, this precedent is absolutely undesirable for us, most importantly, we believe it is rather dangerous for international practice. To put it in simple words, it creates a very dangerous precedent for, let's say, allowing the possibility of non-repayment of sovereign debt," Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

"The question arises as to what will happen next," Peskov said.
