PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia plans to raise tariffs for passenger transportation on long-distance routes by 30% in 2016, Ukrzaliznytsia Acting Deputy Director General Ihor Breus has said.

"We foresaw the increase in two stages in the financial plan: by 15% from April 1 and July 1, 2016, and as a whole by 30%. This year our request has not been supported. It's not even increase, this is tariff indexation," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

Asked about compensation of preferential traffic, he said that if the country strives to meet the standards of the global community, it is necessary to understand the need for monetization or compensation.

"Today we have the largest number of people entitled to benefits in the CIS," Breus added.

He also said that the current compensation for privileged categories, including students, does not exceed 25% of the required amount.
