Reconstruction of Kakhovska-Khersonska power grid at risk of failure - Ukrenergo

Ukrenergo has been forced to suspend the reconstruction of the 330 kV Kakhovska-Khersonska power grid, conducted at the expense of funds from the EBRD and the EIB, and put it into operation, the press service of the company has said.

"As a result, this may affect the volume of reconstruction work and reduce the use of investment funds from European financial institutions and jeopardize the completion of work at the Kakhovska-Khersonska line this year," the report said.

According to the press service, the decision was made due to the difficult situation in energy supply to the southern regions of the country. In particular, on August 3 an auto-transformer with a capacity of 1,000 MVA at Zaporizhia nuclear power plant switched off because of damage to a 330 kV remote current transformer. In addition, due to a lack of fuel the generation of Kryvy Rih TPP of DTEK Dniproenergo dropped significantly, which works with just one unit of 300 MW.

In this regard, consumers in Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Kherson regions and Crimea were threatened with a possible limitation of power supply.
