Poroshenko says National Anti-Corruption Bureau will begin work in June

The first detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine will begin working in June and the bureau will start working in full swing by October, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

In his annual address to the parliament Poroshenko stressed Ukraine is actively working on the legislative base to combat corruption.

"The key point: as never before there was a contest to appoint director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau…The same we do hiring detectives on a contest base, and such a thorough selection requires some time. Nevertheless, the first detectives will appear in June, and the bureau is to start a full-scale investigation in October," Poroshenko said.

When speaking about the reform of prosecution agencies and the work of Prosecutor General's Office, Poroshenko said: "[the] New prosecutor general appeared to be more active and efficient than his predecessors."

However, Poroshenko said that prosecutions agencies will continue to face resignations, job cuts and contests to hire new local prosecutors and their deputies.
