Ukraine to receive 'billions of dollars' from privatization of state stevedores – infrastructure ministry

Ukraine will receive "billions of dollars" of investment from the privatization of stevedores in state ownership.

"The [Infrastructure] Ministry supports the privatization of stevedoring operations in Ukraine. This would allow making our stevedoring operations more competitive, this would allow employees of the companies to get larger salaries and have higher social standards," Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Andriy Pyvovarsky told reporters at a briefing in Odesa on Tuesday.

He said between $1 billion to $1.2 billion of investment will be brought to Ukraine if a tender to privatize state-run stevedores is announced.

"During the privatization the country would receive billions of dollars of investment. Now I speak not only about how much will be paid for a stevedoring company, but I speak about what investment will be made in the development of terminals… These are new technologies, new jobs and new taxes," he added.

Pyvovarsky went on to say that this is not only about investment in seaports, but in river ports as well.
