National Electronic Payments System to be rebranded

The National System of Mass Electronic Payments will be rebranded, the newly appointed director of the retail payments department at the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), Serhiy Shatsky, has said.

"We plan to create another, more sonorous name. So surprise No. 1 is the rebranding of the system," he said in an interview with the Fuete edition.

He said that the cards of the system should occupy 25-30% of the market in the future.

"It is clear that everything won't be immediately reconstructed. I set the task for myself - our internal payment card should occupy 25-30% of the market," he said.

Shatsky noted that PrivatBank has recently joined the system to accept its cards, while it is planned in the near future to involve other major players, including Raiffeisen Bank Aval and Ukrsotsbank.

"The National Bank of Ukraine should not be a lever that would force banks to transfer to the internal payment system. On the contrary, banks must come to the understanding that transferring to the Ukrainian payment card, they will receive benefits - save on commissions they pay to international payment systems, but still receive the same level of service and in some terms it can be higher," the banker said.

The National System of Mass Electronic Payments was launched in 2004.

It includes 55 banks, including the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), and 22 non-bank institutions, including Ukrposhta.

The payment organization of the National System of Mass Electronic Payments is the NBU.
