European, U.S. energy companies interested in privatization in Ukraine – energy minister

European and American energy companies have shown interest in the privatization of Ukrainian energy assets and could participate in their privatization, Energy and Coal Industry Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn told reporters while commenting on meetings held as part of the International Support for Ukraine Conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"They [investors] have a positive attitude to the possibility of taking part in the privatization of Ukrainian assets. We're looking at companies that are put up for sale and what they could buy… They are interested in electricity distribution, regional electricity supply companies, regional gas supply companies and Centrenergo," he said.

Demchyshyn said that large companies have shown interest in the privatization of Energoatom, Ukrhydroenergo and the gas transportation system.

He said that the privatization of these companies is not currently being considered, saying that this is an issue of separate political decisions.

He added that Chevron, Shell, ExxonMobil, ЕNI and RWE have shown interest in Ukrainian energy assets.
