Loss of NIC.UA from seizure of servers today totals $300,000
The loss of NIC.UA company from the seizure of its servers by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reached $300,000 and grows by $1,000 every day, the company's director Andriy Khvetkevych said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
He said that the company is ready to meet the SBU's requirements and asks law-enforcers to return their equipment, adding that SBU will not be able to gain access to the company's clients on its database as it will not be able to connect NIC.UA's servers.
Deputy Director of Parkovy data center Denys Burduk added that if the company lost $300,000 from the seizure of its servers, the rest of the market could lose 10% of clients, as this hits client's trust.
SBU representatives on April 7 seized hosting servers at four NIC.UA data centers.
Earlier, SBU representatives sent a request to the provider regarding the placement of separatists' websites on its servers, and the company disconnected the websites. Only hosting servers were seized. Servers that service domains continue to operate.
NIC.UA head said that the company serves over 150,000 clients, around 50,000 of which are hosting clients.
Subsequently, an advisor to the SBU head Markiyan Lubkivsky said that the SBU will retain servers of NIC.UA for two months. Clients of the company can ask investigators to copy their data.
