The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has permitted Whirlpool Italia Holdings, a subsidiary of U.S. household appliances manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation, to acquire a 56% stake in Indesit Company SpA, which amounts to 61.9% of voting shares, the press service of the committee reported on Friday.

Whirlpool was to receive the permit from the Ukrainian agency as Indesit Company incorporates Indesit Ukraine LLC (100% subsidiary of Indesit Company SpA), whose share of Indesit’s total revenue is around 3%.

The committee studied the major domestic appliances market (stoves, kitchen hoods, washing machines, refrigerators, freezers, microwave ovens, washing machines, drying machines) with the involvement of independent experts.

The committee established that the acquisition will not result in the monopolization of the market or a large restriction on competition.

The participants of the deal are obliged to fulfill certain liabilities. They are to refrain from actions which could result in a negative impact on competition on the major domestic appliances market. The liabilities concern the volume of supplies, average wholesale and the retail prices of goods made by the deal’s participants.
