PGO investigating contracts on supply of electricity to Crimea, says prosecutor general

Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) is investigating the possible violation of Ukrainian law during the signing of contracts on the supply of electricity to Crimea.

When asked by Interfax-Ukraine if criminal proceedings into materials which the governmental commission sent to the PGO on the supply of electricity to Crimea have begun, Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin said that there is a criminal proceeding regarding Crimea and it is being investigated.

As reported, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk ordered an internal investigation into the actions of officials in the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry and state enterprises during the signing of contracts on the supply of electricity by Ukrinterenergo and Russia's Inter RAO.

On February 11, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers passed to the Interior Ministry, the Prosecutor General's Office and the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) the results of an official investigation into contracts on the supply of electricity to Crimea between Ukrinterenergo and Inter RAO.

"The commission for conducting an official investigation has finished work. The information about the commission's work was heard at a meeting of the government. In accordance with the government's decision, the Secretariat of the Cabinet passed the materials of the official investigation to the Interior Ministry, the PGO and the SBU," reads the government statement.
