European investment in Ukrainian GTS to boost Ukraine and EU's energy security, says Ukrainian FM

The attraction of investment from the countries-members of the European Union to the Ukrainian gas transport system (GTS) will increase energy security of the sides, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.

The press service of the Foreign Ministry reported on Monday that at a meeting with Vice President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic in Brussels the sides discussed the top-priority directions of cooperation in the energy sector.

"The minister and the vice president of the European Commission also paid attention to the attraction of investment from the European Union to the Ukrainian gas transport system, which will increase Ukraine and EU'S energy security. Klimkin pointed out that further cooperation with the EU in the issue of joint modernization and exploitation of the Ukrainian gas transport system and attracting of European companies to the use of underground gas storage facilities of Ukraine," reads the report.

Klimkin thanked the European Commission for active support in reaching agreements on supplies of natural gas to Ukraine with Russia, which will allow passing winter smoothly.

"Sefcovic pointed at the important role of Ukraine's partnership with the EU in the energy sector and promised to further promote the organization of reverse supplies of natural gas to the country from the EU," the press service said.
