Dispute over price slowing payments for transit through Ukraine - Gazprom

The dispute over price has slowed payment for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, Gazprom's official representative Sergei Kupriyanov told journalists.

The transit rate is pegged to the gas price, and in accepting a certain transit rate, Ukraine also accepts a specific gas price. And this will undoubtedly be used in court, he said.

"The only technical problem that exists as concerns payment for gas transit through the territory of Ukraine is the fact that Gazprom wants to pay more than Ukraine expects from us," Kupriyanov said.

"The transit rate depends on the price of Russian gas for Ukraine. Gazprom calculates this price based on the formula set in the gas supply contract. But Naftogaz Ukrainy calculates [it] based on its own price. This slows down the process. But we will find a solution to this problem. Everything will be done in accordance with the spirit of the Brussels agreements," he said.
