The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has created the State Service for Food Safety and Protection of Consumers on the basis of the State Veterinary and Bio-security Service, the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Consumer Rights and the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service.

The decision is stipulated by cabinet resolution No. 442 on the optimization of the central executive power agency system of September 10, 2014.

According to the document, the new agency will unite the functions of the three above-mentioned services (apart from the realization of the state policy in the area of pedigree business in the livestock breeding sector and occupational hygiene) and it will control the observation of the requirements on the formation, establishment and application of prices regulated by the state and supervision in the area of tourism and resorts.

According to the resolution, rights and liabilities of the central executive power agencies under liquidation are transferred to the new agencies. The previous services continue fulfilling their functions until the measures on the creation of the new central executive power agencies are finished.

Ministries and other central executive power agencies are ordered to submit draft acts on the creation of commission on the liquidation of the relevant services to the Cabinet of Ministers within two weeks.
