Slovakia ready to facilitate gas reverse to Ukraine, asking to observe all procedures – foreign Economy Ministry

Slovakia supports the realization of the project to organize natural gas reverse supplies to Ukraine, but calls for the observation of all the necessary procedures for this, part of which is the signing of a memorandum of understanding and agreements on connection between the gas transportation operators of both countries, the Economy Ministry of the Slovak Republic has said.

The ministry noted that implementing the project for connections between Slovakia and Ukraine for reverse natural gas supplies is fully within the competence of the gas transportation operators of both countries and the companies Eustream and Ukrtransgaz.

"At this stage it is very important to focus on the technical aspects of a possible reverse flow of gas through the Slovak Republic. When preparing them, precious time expires because of Ukrtransgaz's unpreparedness for negotiations and signing documents, which have been prepared at the initiative of the European Commission for more than a year," reads the report.

The ministry said that "Eustream has not noticed any interest from the side of Ukraine in the opportunity to visit Slovak gas facilities or the compressor station in Velke Kapusany."

"The standard way of preparing reverse, according to the rules of the EU law, is obligatory, due to which the previous commitments of Eustream, related to gas transportation through the Slovak Republic, should not be violated. We would welcome a greater flexibility of Ukrtransgaz in preparing and participating in negotiations in Bratislava, leading to the completion of this process," reads the report, citing Slovak Minister of Economy Tomas Malatinsky.
