Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union will help Europe emerge from economic crisis.

"The creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area will be a key element of the agreement. This will pave the way for the integration of our economy into the EU internal market and thus stimulate its qualitative modernization," Yanukovych said at the Central and Eastern Europe summit of heads of state in Bratislava on Thursday.

He noted that European businesses would be able to operate freely on the Ukrainian market on the basis of clear standards and rules.

"I'm confident that the accession of Ukraine's domestic market, its industrial and agricultural facilities to the European economic zone will have a significant positive impact on the economic situation in Europe and promote the process of Europe's emergence from crisis," Yanukovych said.

That is why, he said, the signing of this document is advantageous to Ukraine and the European Union.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that the Central and Eastern Europe summit of heads of state in Bratislava is attended by 20 presidents. The opening of the summit was also attended by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy.

The motto of the summit is "Growth Strategy for Post-Crisis Recovery." The leaders of the Central and Eastern European countries are discussing the economic and social situation in Europe, as well as incentives for sustainable economic growth.

As reported, the 18th Central and Eastern Europe summit of heads of state was to be held in Yalta in May 2012, but it was postponed by the Ukrainian side as some leaders could not participate in it.
