Ukrainian energy minister says contract on reverse gas supply through Slovakia could be signed on June 15-20

PJSC Ukrtransgaz is planning to sign a contract with Slovakia's Eustream on June 15-20 on the supply of natural gas through Slovakia, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky has said.

"Eustream and Ukrtransgaz will sign a contract June 15 through June 20," he told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.

As reported, Slovakia is the major corridor of gas supplies from Europe to Ukraine. Ukrtransgaz proposed that the Slovak side use one of the four existing gas pipelines to supply gas in reverse mode, which will provide gas receipts of up to 10 billion cubic meters per year.

Deputy Head of Naftogaz Ukrainy Vadym Chuprun said earlier that Ukraine was in talks with Romania on the organization of reverse gas supplies via the territory of the country.

Because of Russian Gazprom's plans to reduce gas shipments to Europe via the Ukrainian gas transportation system and Moscow's unwillingness to reduce the gas price for Ukraine, Kyiv in November 2012 began using its gas transportation facilities in reverse mode to bring in gas from Europe.
