Ukraine cuts gas consumption 15.5% in 2 months

Ukraine slashed gas consumption by 15.5% year-on-year to 13.939 billion cubic meters (bcm) in January-February 2013, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has reported.

In February alone, gas consumption was down by 27.9% year-on-year to 6.296 bcm.

Ukraine imported 23.2% less gas in January-February, at 4.742 bcm. In February, imports dropped by 38.3% year-on-year to 2.251 bcm.

Gas transit through Ukraine decreased 24.3% to 13.434 bcm in the first two months of this year and 25.5% to 6.362 bcm in February alone.

In February 2013, the Ukrainian gas transportation system transited 6.362 billion cubic meters of gas, which is 25.5% (2.172 billion cubic meters) less than in February 2012.

As reported, Ukraine in 2012 reduced gas consumption by 7.6% (by 4.531 billion cubic meters) compared to 2011, to 54.775 billion cubic meters.

Gas transit through Ukraine in 2012 decreased by 19.1% (by 19.937 billion cubic meters) compared to 2011, to 84.261 billion cubic meters.

Gas imports to Ukraine last year decreased by 26.5% (by 11.864 billion cubic meters) compared to 2011, to 32.939 billion cubic meters.
