UIA becomes co-owner of Swissport Ukraine

1 min read

The Court of Appeals on March 27, 2013 upheld a decision under which Ukraine International Airlines (UIA, Kyiv) acquired a 100% stake in the Swissport Ukraine handling agent.

The press service of the air company told Interfax-Ukraine that the purchase was approved by the court on the basis of assessments approved by Swissport International and under the terms previously agreed by the parties. The mechanism of compulsory acquisition UIA used was agreed by the parties, and each party under certain conditions may apply it.

"UIA had to go to court to protect its rights as a minority shareholder of Swissport Ukraine, having faced the openly hostile actions of its Swiss partner Swissport International, which actually deprived UIA of the right to participate in the management of the common business and tried to unilaterally dilute the share of UIA," the press service said.

UIA noted that Swissport International entered the business in 2006 via buying a share of UIA in its handling agent when UIA was under state control.
