Fuel supplies to Ukraine being blocked, says Rompetrol

Rompetrol-Ukraine LLC (Odesa) continues to experience difficulties with the customs clearance of petrol imported from Petromedia oil refinery (Constanta, Romania) to the Ukrainian market, the company's press service said on Tuesday.

"Supplies of high quality Romanian fuel to Ukraine have been effectively blocked," said Rompetrol.

According to the company, as of Monday 15,000 tonnes of A-95 petrol was at Kherson port. The petrol has been awaiting customs clearance for three weeks (from November 7).

Rompetrol said that the representatives of customs authorities announced the need to check the quality of the imported fuel. The State Customs Service took petrol samples on November 13, and the legislation foresees up to 30 days for their analysis (the term can be prolonged to 45 days).

"Such delays of fuel at port terminals make the supply of quality Romanian petrol to the Ukrainian market unprofitable and could lead to their elimination. This could destabilize the fuel market in the south-east region of Ukraine, where Rompetrol meets over 50% of the demand for high quality petrol," the company said.
