Ukraine's Finance Ministry has set aside UAH 4.1 billion to state-run Oschadbank to pay compensation to former Soviet Savings Bank (Sberbank) depositors, according to the Finance Ministry.

"As of September 28, 2012, the Finance Ministry … set aside UAH 4.100 billion from the national budget for JSC Oschadbank to pay to depositors who were as of January 1, 2012 in the register of savings depositors and who did not receive their compensation in 2008 for depreciated savings," reads the statement.

As reported, Oschadbank started paying compensation to former Soviet Sberbank depositors on June 1, 2012. Depositors are paid within the balance of the indexed deposit, but no more than UAH 1,000 per capita. Oschadbank also pays UAH 500 each to depositors' heirs.

On September 1, 2012, Oschadbank started registering those Soviet-era Sberbank depositors in the register of saving depositors, who have not registered their personal data and compensation accounts.
