ITU decides to help, support Ukraine in restoring its telecommunications sector - State Special Communications Service

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has decided to implement the UN General Assembly resolution "Aggression against Ukraine" regarding assistance and support to Ukraine in restoring its telecommunications sector.

According to the telegram channel of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, this opens up opportunities for the ITU to take real measures to restore the telecommunications infrastructure that was destroyed or damaged as a result of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine.

ITU, in particular, will be able to monitor and provide regular reports on the needs of Ukraine in the field of telecommunications and prepare proposals for effective technical assistance.

The Union also had the opportunity to assess and report on the impact of the war in Ukraine on ITU programs and activities in the region.

In addition, this opens up an opportunity for the international communications organization to ensure the proper mobilization of financial and human resources, including from the internal budget and the Fund for the development of information and communication technologies, for the implementation of the proposed measures.

"It was a really difficult vote. Representatives of the occupiers in the ITU used all possible means and procedural clues to stop or at least delay the decision. However, everyone sees and understands well who Russia is and what purpose the occupying forces in Ukraine are pursuing," head of the State Service for Special Communications Yuriy Shchyhol was quoted as saying in the message.

He thanked every representative of the ITU participating countries who supported this decision.
