Ex-policeman, who defected to Russian side during occupation of Izium, sentenced to 15 years in prison - prosecutor's office
A panel of judges of Dzerzhynsky district Court of Kharkiv found guilty a former policeman of high treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
"He was sentenced to 15 years in prison," the press service of Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reports.
As it was established, during the occupation of Izium, the accused, being a district police officer in the prevention sector of the district administration, voluntarily took a similar position in a pseudo-law enforcement agency created by the invaders. He went on duty as part of investigative task forces, kept records of unified accounting journals, and ensured public order for the occupation authorities. In addition, the accused agitated colleagues to swear allegiance to the Russian Federation and work in the occupation police.
Subsequently, he went on a "promotion" and became a "senior district police commissioner of the department of district police commissioners for minors."
After the liberation of Izium, the man was hiding from justice. Last October, he stepped on a Russian anti-personnel mine and suffered a traumatic amputation of his foot. After treatment, law enforcement officers detained him.
At the hearing, the accused did not admit his guilt.
The verdict has not entered into force. There is a deadline for an appeal.
