Ukraine's letter to IMF raises its chances of getting second tranche of loan, says IMF managing director

The International Monetary Fund's Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn has said that a letter of intent by Ukrainian authorities raises the country's chances of getting the IMF stand-by loan's second tranche.

He said this in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko on Monday.

As Interfax-Ukraine learned at the president's press service, Strauss-Kahn noted that as soon as the IMF receives the letter it will be considered.

The IMF managing director welcomed a common stand of Ukrainian authorities, which was developed at a coordinating meeting of representatives of all branches of power and political forces on overcoming the crisis.

He also hailed Ukraine's desire to take the steps aimed at the development of Ukraine's economy amidst the economic crisis.

In turn, Yuschenko briefed Strauss-Kahn about the results of the meeting, where a letter to the Fund was drafted.

The Ukrainian president initiated the telephone conversation with the IMF director, the press service said.
