Yuschenko invites World Bank head to visit Ukraine

Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko and World Bank President Robert Zoellick have discussed the question of two loans for Ukraine being currently considered by the bank.

The Ukrainian president's press service quoted them as talking by phone on Monday.

Yuschenko briefed Zoellick on the results of a council on coordinating the activities of all branches of power and political forces amid crisis conditions for economic development. The participants in the council agreed the draft of a letter of intent from Ukraine to the International Monetary Fund. Yuschenko expressed confidence that the IMF mission would continue its work in Ukraine by the end of this week.

"Robert Zoellick, in turn, highly appreciated the actions of Viktor Yuschenko aimed at consolidating the efforts of all branches of power needed to tackle the crisis in the Ukrainian economy quickly and effectively," the press service said.

Yuschenko also invited Zoellick to visit Ukraine.
