Ukraine may find out new gas price by New Year, says political scientist

Head of the Penta Center for Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko has said a new price of gas could be announced by the New Year.

"I think that we will find out the new gas price before the New Year," Fesenko said during a press conference in Kyiv.

He added that if the price were announced after the New Year, this would be a worse option and "a sign of a renewed gas tension."

At the same time, Fesenko said that neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian side want a conflict.

The political scientist also forecast that Ukraine would have to compromise to get a new gas price.

"Ukraine already has to yield in many cases," he said.

According to the expert, these compromises have various forms, for example - the creation of a gas transporting consortium.

"We will not get a new price of gas without these compromises," he added.
