Kazakhstan considering purchasing new An-148 regional jet

The Kazakh State Airline Berkut Air is interested in buying the An-148 new generation regional jet.

Kazakhstan voiced its interest in the new aircraft after a presentation of the An-148-100 in Astana for representatives of the Transport and Communications Ministry of Kazakhstan, the Civil Aviation Committee, and the airline during the recent visit of Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov to Kazakhstan, Interfax-Ukraine learned at the press service of the Antonov State Enterprise.

Kazakh officials studied the characteristics of the aircraft, as well as the results of the first phase of its operation.

Following the presentation, Deputy Transport Minister of Kazakhstan Erkyn Dyusembayev said that the new An-148 aircraft suits the country's conditions well.

"The Antonov's presentation ahs opened a new stage of partnership between our countries in the aviation industry," he said.

The An-148 is a new generation regional passenger jet, which is capable of carrying from 68-85 passengers for a distance of from 2,000-4,400 kilometers.

The aircraft are built at the Antonov mass production plant (Kyiv), a branch of the Antonov State Enterprise, jointly with OAO VASO (Voronezh, Russia).
