Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has proposed establishing a counter-intelligence division within the Security Service (SBU) to protect national interests in the area of information security.
A relevant bill drafted by the president, which suggests amending certain laws of Ukraine on the structure of the Security Service of Ukraine, was registered at the Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday, November 23.
According to an explanatory note to the bill, the document was drawn up as a part of the SBU's reform in order to ensure an effective response to modern challenges and threats to national security in the information field, and changes the SBU structure so that it can better fulfill its tasks.
