The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has demanded that Libyan diplomats provide as soon as possible all information about Ukrainian specialists detained in the country.
"We simply require that answers to our questions be given as soon as possible. Earlier, we just asked for meetings with our citizens, but now we demand the contact details of individuals who would really be able to influence this process," Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov told journalists in Kyiv on Friday.
He said that on Friday, Libyan Ambassador to Ukraine Feisal Elshaari was for the third time invited to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to discuss the situation, but he was unable to give answers to the questions of the Ukrainian side.
"He said that he had no information due to the fact that the [Libyan] government is now being reformed and the Libyan Foreign Ministry is now being formed," Dykusarov said.
He said that the situation with the detention of Ukrainians remained unchanged: 19 Ukrainian citizens are staying in a dormitory, and three others at the nearby Mitiga Airport.
"They feel fine, and they are not complaining about their health or any unauthorized actions by the Libyan side," he added.
Dykusarov said that on Friday, the detained Ukrainians were expected to be able to have a phone conversation with their families.
As reported, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on September 5 confirmed the detention in Libya of 23 Ukrainian civilian specialists. One of them has already been released with the assistance of diplomats, and the rest are still being checked.
The Segodnya newspaper wrote on September 8, citing its own sources, that the Libyan rebels had detained the Ukrainians in Tripoli, as it has been reported that the Ukrainians had been engaged in repairing an air defense system.
