Mykolaiv Regional Council and Mykolaiv Regional State Administration on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation for the Development of Ukraine.
According to the press service of Mykolaiv Regional Council, the document was signed as part of the foundation's program "Stop Tuberculosis in Ukraine" with the financial support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
"Mykolaiv region is the first one that signed the memorandum. This is one of the regions with the highest rate of tuberculosis," Foundation Director Anatoliy Zabolotny said.
Governor Mykola Kruhlov noted that the problem of tuberculosis is more acute in Mykolaiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions compared to other ones.
"We can do something on our own, but we feel an acute lack of help. We are very grateful to Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation for the shoulder it lent in time of need. The memorandum will give us quite different perspectives for solving the problem," Kruhlov said.
