Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said that the consideration of a gas supply case against her in court is intended to distract attention from real problems in Ukraine.
"The real goal of these trials is to distract attention from the trouble that currently exists in Ukraine... Such trials are intended to divert attention from real problems," she told journalists in the courtroom during a break in a court session on Thursday.
"Everything that is related to political repression is related to the desire to distract attention from real problems," she added.
Tymoshenko said that "the gas case is not accidental." She also said that using this case, the authorities "are covering themselves in order to take away our gas transport system."
"Today, they are simply giving away our priceless property... Strategic property, which we own, is finally being given away... All of this is being done under the cover of these high-profile trials," Tymoshenko said.
