Joint border checkpoints can be established on the Ukrainian-Polish border for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship only if border controls are carried out on the Polish side, Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Henryk Litwin has said.
"We have only one condition – that the joint checks be carried out on our side," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday, adding that if Ukraine agrees to this, these checkpoints will be established.
He added that Poland is interested in creating joint border crossing points for the Euro 2012 championship.
"This is possible, and at present we have to agree with Ukraine on what we will do... This will help people cross the border," the ambassador said.
As for the additional checkpoints that could be opened on the Ukrainian-Polish border before Euro 2012, the diplomat said that roads to the checkpoints had to be built first.
"There's no point in opening a checkpoint in a field," Litwin said.
