Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko has said that an option to bring the county to default and introduce the state of emergency is considered to prolong Viktor Yuschenko's presidential term.
She said in an interview with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (The Mirror of the Week) weekly published on Saturday that an idea of prolonging the presidential term in some unnatural way is matured in Yuschenko's environment.
"Various options were discussed. One of them is to bring the country to default and introduce the state of emergency, which the parliament would have to adopt in this situation. According to the Constitution, elections in the country cannot be held in the state of emergency," she said.
