The Ukrainian parliament will consider the question of dismissing the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) governor at an extraordinary meeting on Monday or Tuesday, January 26-27, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said.
"The parliamentary faction of the BYT has collected the 155 signatures needed to hold a special meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. I will consult with the Verkhovna Rada chairman today and will ask him to convene the parliament's extraordinary meeting on Monday or Tuesday," she said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.
"During this meeting, we would like to consider the dismissal of [NBU Head Volodymyr] Stelmakh and the dismissal of [NBU First Deputy Head Anatoliy] Shapoval, who is his right hand in all of the corrupt schemes," Tymoshenko said.
She said that the parliament would select the acting head of the central bank from among the bank head's "worthy deputies, after analyzing the staff of the NBU board."
