BYT wants parliament to convene for extraordinary meeting on NBU, says premier

The Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko faction has called for an extraordinary meeting of the Ukrainian parliament to be held on the situation at the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko has said.

She said at a press conference on Wednesday that she had put this proposal to the faction.

"Today, we started collecting the 150 signatures needed to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada that will consider the NBU question, including the introduction of amendments to the law on the NBU, and help hear at this meeting a report by the Ukrainian president, regarding his failure to react to the NBU's activities, takes some steps related to his powers, prevent corrupt schemes, and [enquire] why he ignores his constitutional powers," Tymoshenko said.

She said that statements by NBU Governor Volodymyr Stelmakh and the NBU board would also be heard at the meeting.
