National JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy plans to buy 5 billion cubic meters of Russian gas in the first quarter of 2009 and to raise the volume of gas purchasea in subsequent months when its price falls, according to Naftogaz Ukrainy Deputy Head Ihor Didenko.
The volume of purchased gas will rise to 10.5 billion cubic meters in the second quarter, to 12 billion cubic meters in the third quarter, and to 12.5 billion cubic meters in the fourth quarter of 2009, Didenko said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.
He confirmed a statement by Naftogaz Ukrainy Deputy Head Volodymyr Trykolych that gas would cost Ukraine $360 per 1,000 cubic meters in the first quarter of 2009, $270 per 1,000 cubic meters in the second quarter, $219 per 1,000 cubic meters in the third quarter and $162 per 1,000 cubic meters in the fourth quarter.
