Mykola Martynenko, chairman of the parliamentary faction Our Ukraine - People's Self Defense (OUPSD) has called on the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council to prevent the cancellation of the Ukrainian-Russian contract on gas supply, the Council's press service reported on Wednesday.
Martynenko believes the National Security and Defense Council on January 23 may make a decision that will require the Ukrainian government to unilaterally cancel (or at least suspend for the purpose of reconsideration) the contract for the purchase of Russian gas in 2009-2019 signed by Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy in Moscow on January 19.
Martynenko believes it is unacceptable to fuel the "gas war," which has just ended, to settle political accounts in the fight for the presidential post.
