BYT calls for parliamentary commission to investigate blocking of gas talks, says MP Kozhemiakin

The Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko will initiate the formation of a temporary investigatory commission in the Verkhovna Rada to investigate alleged interference by third persons in the Ukrainian-Russian gas talks, BYT MP Andriy Kozhemiakin has said.

"The intermediary-company RosUkrEnergo is responsible for disrupting the talks between Naftogaz Ukrainy and Russian company Gazprom in December 2008. Gazprom's authorities confirmed this. The blocking of the talks on gas supplies led to serious consequences and greatly impeded the difficult economic situation in Ukraine," Kozhemiakin said.

"The avalanche of criticism from the staff of the presidential secretariat and representatives of the so-called "Firtash group" [co-owner of RosUkrEnergo Dmytro Firtash] within the Regions Party, directed against the government of [Prime Minister Yulia] Tymoshenko after [agreements on] supplying gas to the country [were reached], is vivid evidence of who stands behind RosUkrEnergo and maintains its interests at the highest state level," he said.

Koshemiakin said he is sure government headed by Tymoshenko had won a victory at the gas talks.
