A girl has been accused of trying to poison another girl using a cheeseburger with mercury in Lviv.

"During the investigation was established that a friend of the victim personally bought two thermometers in a Lviv drugstore. She broke them in a bathroom of the victim, put mercury in the cheeseburger and gave it to her friend," the director of the public relations department at the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, Dmytro Andreyev, said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

He said that a criminal case had been opened under articles 15 and 115 of the Criminal Code (premeditated murder).

Andreyev said that the investigators are trying to learn the motives of the girl's actions.

"Rumors that mercury was found in McDonald’s food courts are untrue. This was a crime," he said.

As reported, on Wednesday a girl allegedly poisoned by mercury in a McDonald’s burger was taken to the hospital in Lviv.

McDonald’s Ukraine officially said it was impossible to be poisoned by mercury in a Lviv McDonalds restaurant.
